Iwanoff House

Welcome to Iwan Iwanoff's own house and studio in Floreat

© Hannah Gosling, 2010

This was a rare opportunity to visit the interior of one of Iwan Iwanoff's buildings - there was a home open as this house is going on auction soon. I was pretty happy to get the 'Stephen Neille tour' of this building, apparently he studied and visited it some years ago and knows it pretty well! Unfortunately it is not yet heritage listed, though the AIA has it on its list of 'nationally significant 20th-century architecture'. Thank you to the estate agents who allowed us to take photos, and who put up with all the visiting architects and architecture students.

red-framed windows (I think the colour is not original though not dissimilar to the original), also apparently red window frames is a FLW thing?

view from former garage through to central stairs (I don't think this view used to exist when it was a garage - I think its a good addition!)

one of two first floor spines - I actually quite like the ceiling that is exposed (vermiculite?) insulation, it looks kind of like compressed shredded paper

also all the cabinets beneath the windows used to have operable shutters so that the building could vent naturally (which is why the concrete blocks protrude slightly at first floor ground level, see relief sculpture image, however they have taken away the switches/levers and now have artificial cooling/heating

Its a happy Hannah!

Check out Susie's detail photos - that toilet was cool! I'm pretty sure the walls of the toilet move so that the bathroom on either side has access to it, though I was not daring enough to try this for myself. Every bedroom has an ensuite in this house!
